The Need to Improve Inhalation Technique

The Aerosol Drug Management Improvement Team (ADMIT), incorporating clinicians from six countries, has reviewed published evidence that examined ways to improve the treatment of reversible airways disease. The data indicated there is a clear need for patient education – specifically in regards to patient training in correct inhalation technique for the various devices currently available. The clinicians agreed that education should be repeated frequently to maintain correct inhalation technique.

Devices designed to provide reassurance to patients and their physicians, confirming that inhalation is being performed correctly, should help to improve patient compliance and control. Better inhalation technique, leads to better compliance and, in-turn, better outcomes.1

The AeroChamber MAX® VHC features the innovative Flow-Vu Inspiratory Flow Indicator (IFI), which allows caregivers to count patient breaths, ensure a satisfactory facemask seal and coordinate actuation with inhalation. This feature provides assurance to patients, caregivers and healthcare professionals that inhalation is performed correctly. This is recommended in order to improve patient compliance and respiratory disease management.1

The effects of poor patient technique can be further reduced with the AeroChamber MAX® VHC StatBan Chamber. The anti-static properties of the chamber prevent medication from adhering to the walls, keeping it suspended and available for delivery to the patient. AeroChamber MAX® VHC gives the patient up to 5 times longer to inhale the medication than static-prone plastic chambers – suspending the drug for more then 10 seconds versus plastic spacers where drug availability is drastically reduced after only 2 seconds.2 In addition, it can be used directly out of the package with no pretreatment or special washing instructions.

The AeroChamber® Brand of Valved Holding Chambers is the #1 Valved Holding Chamber recommended by Canadian Pharmacists3, according to the most recent published results of the Pharmacy Post annual pharmacy survey in Canada. Formulary Coverage and third party insurance reimbursement is widely available for AeroChamber MAX® VHC.
